This past weekend was Mountainfilm in Telluride, the second festival for our film ”Shattered.” It was an incredible weekend. The range of films and stories and lectures went from inspiring and moving to funny to jaw-dropping and adrenaline pumping and back again. It is incredible to be a part of such an amazing group of artists, and we couldn’t be more proud to be showing our film along side them. I introduced the film at the Climbing Program on Saturday and was having a blast representing the studio.

On the streets of Saigon ( Ho Chi Minh City.) Draper and I both found Ho Chi Minh city to be one of our favorite stops on the trip so far. From the moment our bus entered the city you could tell there was something different about the place. Over 5 million motor bikes weave through the city streets, like worker ants they move along stopping for no one. You literally have to keep an even pace when walking the streets as to not get hit! Perhaps the motorbikes allow for us as passers-by to get a closer look at the city and it’s people than we would if they were hidden behind cars. The people here transport nearly everything on their motorbikes- pigs, people, plants, everything! The buildings are fairly low and have a worn down texture of a place that’s seen a lot of change. From French colonization to westernization after the American War, Ho Chi Minh City has a lot of layers that we barely had enough time to explore.

We had an amazing time in Bangkok. As a team we have the seminars running like a well oiled machine. And after the seminars it’s all food, laughter and good times. Couldn’t ask for a better group of people to travel around with. Only gripe? Need more time in each place. Bangkok has so much to offer and we just scraped the surface!

Jakarta skyline at dawn.
Today we held a workshop in Jakarta Indonesia. I must say I’ve never seen Photo enthusiasts so enthusiastic. Tyler received a rock star status greeting.
A great crowd. We’ll post some photos and videos so you can see just what I mean.
For now we are off to the airport to head to Malaysia.

If you see a classmate in the hall chances are you will not acknowledge them. If you see the same classmate outside of school by chance, you will likely nod or smile. Now if you see the same classmate halfway around the globe, well you just might spend the day with them.

That’s just what we had the pleasure of doing. In an effort to get tips and advice we posted our itinerary to Facebook. As luck would have it a former classmate of Draper’s is currently living in Singapore!

We met up with Jason Chow and had in him the best tour guide of this beautiful city. He helped us navigate Little India- the Mustafa Center, the open street markets and joined us for a meal at a delicious vegetarian cafe.

From there we had our first local Singaporean coffee. It.was.delicious.

With renewed energy we continued to walk along the river in Clarke Quay, then over to business district all the while learning about local customs, architecture and history.

Special thank you to Jason for spending the day with us and giving us tips on how to stay out of trouble, and some suggestions for great photo spots!

The local joke here is that Singapore is a ‘fine’ city. With exorbitant fees for littering to gum chewing the city manages to keep it’s streets pristine and they truly are stunning.

So far in this fine city we’ve navigated the subway in search of some photogenic spots to share with all of you. The subway itself is something to behold, a former New Yorker I was aghast when I saw group of students barefoot studying in a circle. The only shoeless subway sitters I’m familiar with are usually holding a cardboard sign and asking for your change.

I digress.

We made our way to Singapore’s botanical gardens with some macro lenses and no plan or expectation. What we found were lush gardens, orchids, and ginger plants. Nothing like what you would find in the mountains of western Colorado!

Tips for shooting macro: Bring a tripod! Don’t shoot wide open because the fall off is great on a close up shot. If you shoot at 5.6 or above you can maintain more detail in the flowers.

The gardens were a beautiful refuge from the crowds of the city but unfortunately not a refuge from the heat! Looking like we’d just stepped out of the shower we made our way down to Orchard Rd. the famed shopping district of Singapore. So we did what any two people who live in a town without a mall would do- WE SHOPPED.

Once the spending frenzy subsided we once again boarded the MRT and took our jetlagged butts back to the hotel to relax by the pool to get ready for day two in SIngapore.

Old friends, and new.
Met up with director Tong Beng who shot a commercial featuring Tyler this past fall in Silverton,Colorado for dinner the other night.
We went to a place called PS cafe, nice combination of class and comfort. Chalkboard walls. Big open windows. Modern globe lights all contributed to what I assume is Singapore’s version of a hipster restaurant.
Good food, great company.
